The University of Wyoming College of Law held the Third Annual Hirst Applegate Trial Advocacy Competition with the final round of competition on Monday October 27, 2014. Preliminary rounds took place during the previous week, where several four-person teams comprised of second and third year law students competed in trial advocacy over three days. In the end, two four-person teams emerged to square off as plaintiff and defendant in the final round on October 27.

The students from the first place team are Ms. Emily Williams from Rigby, ID, Mr. Alan Davis from Denver, CO, Mr. David Hansen from Kemmerer WY, and Mr. Derek Thrall from Gillette, WY. The second place students are Mr. Travis Wagman from Medina, MN, Ms. Kelly Owen from Greeley, CO, Mr. Jonathan McCoy from Laramie, WY, and Ms. Laura Petrilli from Longmont, CO. Wyoming Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Michael K. Davis, Judge Robert A. Caster from the Circuit Court of the Second Judicial District in Albany County, and Hirst Applegate Managing Partner, Robert C. Jarosh judged the final round of competition.Hirst Applegate, LLP sponsors the Trial Advocacy Competition each year in an effort to promote and strengthen the students’ abilities and skills in the courtroom. “It has been a privilege for our firm’s attorneys to work so closely with many first, second, and third year law school students and help them develop their understanding and skillset in the courtroom”, said Rob Jarosh, Managing Partner of Hirst Applegate.
