On December 20, 2017, Hirst Applegate associate attorney, Shaina A. Case, presented two CLEs during the National Business Institute Seminar at Little America in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The first CLE topic was on the law of intestate succession. Shaina focused on how approximately 65% of all Americans have not created their own estate plans, leaving them vulnerable to the often unwanted statutory distribution scheme of intestacy laws. Shaina talked about the importance of designing either a will or trust based estate plan to avoid such unwanted distributions.  The second CLE topic spoke to handling claims against the estate, including creditor’s claims and how to give proper notice to creditors in summary distribution or informal probate. Shaina focuses her practice on estate planning and estate administration.
