Attorneys Richard Mincer and Billie Addleman recently attended the 52nd Annual Convention of the Wyoming Mining Association (WMA) in Sheridan, Wyoming, on June 20 – 22, 2007. The WMA represents 32 mining companies that operate 50 mines producing a variety of minerals. The WMA Convention was held in conjunction with the annual business meeting of the Mining Associates of Wyoming (MAW). MAW is a professional organization with the purpose of supporting the WMA. Hirst Applegate is the only Wyoming law firm member in MAW. Speakers at the WMA Convention discussed issues concerning the state, nation, and the mineral industry. Convention speakers included Daniel Gerkin, senior vice president for government and political affairs of the National Mining Association; Albert Calderon, President Calderon Energy Company; and John Corra, Director of Department of Environmental Quality. Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal also spoke at the Annual Safety Awards Luncheon. Topics presented during the convention included: the MINER Act, Co-Employee Liability, Air Quality Issues, Drug & Alcohol Testing, and Other Mineable Minerals.
